Biography

Karthik Hebbar is an Art Activist based out of Bangalore. He is an accomplished Musician, Writer, Media Personality and Theatre Personality from Karnataka.

He has written and published widely on Carnatic music including columns on classical music in the Hindu newspaper and other prestigious websites and music magazines. He is also is summoned to present lectures on music in all the prestigious sabhas and music universities.

Karthik also is a Carnatic Classical Vocalist – composer. He received his initial training from his mother Smt Vidya Hebbar and went on to learn under Ganakalabhushana Vid. R.K.Padmanabha. During his stay in Chennai, he also learnt under Sangeetha Kalacharya Vid. P.S. Narayanaswamy.  He. has contributed to the Classical Dance/Music fraternity with his innovative poetry, compositions, Lecture Demonstrations and Critical writing. He also indulges in photography, writing columns for a few leading publications and has published short stories in Kannada.

He has written musical operas and has conceptualised many dance drama productions which have been performed widely. He has also served as an associate and assistant director for many Television productions and served as a story / screenplay and Dialogue writer for many hugely popular TV series in Karnataka. He has also marked his presence as a lead actor of a Kannada TV serial which that gained colossal popularity in Karnataka.

Karthik also is a popular playwright and Theatre Director  and is doing lot of work in the modern theatre space. He is often invited to speak at diversity forums and Queer initiatives. Karthik has been very vocal of his journey as a queer artist. He has published on Queer Issues on various websites and blogs. He has written and directed Plays that meditate on gender, identity and LGBTQ rights. He has also created multiple innovative compositions in Carnatic Classical style that are queer themed. Karthik is also writing Insta -poetry series that give us a sneak peek into queer life and experiences through poetic expression.Â
